Today Sept 25 we found out that there was a mechanical problem and that the Capt. decided not to stop in Sydney. The ship would be undergoing repairs and then proceeding to Charlottetown. We enjoyed a relaxing sea day so we would be rested for the next port.
On Friday at 9:00 am the ship docked in Charlottetown at the pier near downtown. It was an easy walk to downtown. The buildings are very quaint and there are many shops on the main st. as well as a small shopping center.
There are several shops dedicated to Anne of Green Gables as the book is set on PEI.
We did find a Starbucks and had a coffee and pastry and used the wifi to send messages home.
Today we are on our own to walk about town. One of the sights we visited was the Beaconsfield Historic House. It belonged to a upper class family and was furnished in the time period the family lived there. A docent gave us a tour of the main floor and upper floor of the house. It was very interesting to hear the history of the families that lived in this house.
Afterwards we found a local restaurant that served lobster rolls so we had lobster rolls again. They are reasonably priced and very tasty as well as a local specialty.
We walked around some more and then headed to the wharf before we boarded our ship.
We had a nice day especially because the weather was so sunny and mild. No fall color yet.
