We have been looking forward to this visit in Santorini. Instead of going into Thira as we have in the past we planned to visit Oia which is on the tip of the island.
Our tender took us to the shore below Thira where there are shops and tour offices for ferries to Oia.
We bought tickets for the trip to Oia which lasted about 20 mins by sea to the port.
There we walked up to catch a shuttle to the town.
Once in Oia we were overcome by its beauty and regretted not coming here before on previous visits to Santorini. We walked along the main street lined with shops on one side the the sea view on the other. It was 90 degrees and some humidity at 11 am.
After walking around we stopped for lunch and to take a break and plan our next stop.
Since it was now 1pm we decided to take the local bus to Thira to sightsee and take the funicular down to the port to catch the tender to the ship.
Since we had been to Thira several times we knew our way around so we had no problem getting around. I spotted a gyro restaurant and loukamada shop.
Since I had a craving for gyros and loukoumades I headed down to the shops to get some.
I ordered my gyro plate and the waiter recommended a loukoumades shop around the corner- different one than I planned to go to- so I headed there and the server made a fresh batch for me to take with me .
I then went back and got my gyro plate and my wife and I went to the funicular stop to take it down to the port.
Since we had time we stopped for a cold drink and some window shopping. I discovered the place where the mules lined up and asked permission to take photos with them.
(the only way from the port to the top where Thira is located is by walking, funicular or mules).
Afterwards we got on the tender to the trip to the ship.
It was lucky that I got my food to go. The security folks allowed me to bring it on board and I stashed it in our cabin. It was lucky that I did bring the food as the special buffet was not very appealing. My wife ate at the buffet and later I went and ate my gyro plate for dinner. We shared the loukamades which was our dessert.
Most of the buffets and special buffets were pretty good but tonight's was not.
